Week 4 Update - Ms. Micha’s Explorers
Hi everyone,
The Explorers had a busy fun day today. The kids enjoyed the morning together before our Circle. We shared our Farm Names & how we were feeling, then revisited our Class Agreements.
We decided to go on a hike to explore more of the farm. We traveled across the dry riverbed toward the vineyard. We made the most of our discoveries. Along the way we found beautiful crystals in the dirt, we discussed a controlled burn to rid of brush, & how the grape vines were still living, even though they didn’t appear vibrant or active. There were no cows to be found & we wondered what they were doing. We talked about armadillos & found a possible fox burrow.
After Snack we completed our Farm Chore; feeding the chickens. We added 4 more scoops of food to the bucket with some water for fermentation. The kids then learned how to finger knit with balls of yarn. Some made friendship bracelets adorned with beads. Others made raccoon traps, tying cordage from to trees to sticks for the desired result.
I read some nature poetry while the kids explored & played in and around the wooded area of our outdoor classroom. Using the straw we spread around in past weeks, they made little nests under trees. After lunch we got to our Lantern project.
I brought one in from home to show them what a lantern looked like up close. We talked about the different fuel types & learned how before street lights we had street lamps. Someone’s job as a lamplighter would be to collect them one by one using a long hook at times, light the lantern then hang it back up.
We then sauntered off to the Hoop House. There we slathered mason jars with modge podge & pressed on some tissue paper. We hole punched shapes out of leaves for the final touch. These beauties will be ready to take home next time!
Thanks so much families & I wish you all a wonderful week.
