Week 5 Update - Ms. Micha’s Saturday Class
Hi Everyone,
This week was wonderful. Our class gathered at the Hoop House where had a cozy Morning Circle. We shared how we were feeling & how we spent our time with the snowy weather we’ve been having. We felt Farmer Austen’s relief as he observed the plants. Farming takes great care & responsibility & it was good to show the class how much loving attention is required. The fluctuations in weather & planning accordingly is quite a process.
We then jumped right into a fun game, Who Am I? I brought some animal masks for the kids to hold as they asked the others yes or no questions to give them clues as to who they were.
Do I have feathers?
Am I found on a farm?
Am I an omnivore?
Am I a mammal?
Do I swim?
Do I have four legs?
We had a giggling good time. We then got suited up to brave the chill to feed our chickens. The chickens are always very excited to greet us in the morning. We recalled the hazardous plants in the area & talked about them. Kids felt great passion for scouting out all the ice that was around; poking, sliding & putting into buckets. We carried some ice to the top of the hill to play & build a fort. There we filled out our worksheet at the Weather Station. No wind, clear skies & finally back in the 40’s.
After snack I read a story called Treemendous, by Bridget Heos. It’s a tale about an acorn’s journey~ the life cycle of an oak tree. Such a lovely book with amazing pictures. The kids felt inspired to make up their own tale, so they played up until lunchtime.
We finally had our planting project! Much like a chia pet, we made our very own faces by drawing on all sides of a small potted plant. We scooped in the soil & planted hairy vetch seeds. We sprinkled a little more soil on top & gave them a good watering. It was a fun day.
Many thanks families!
