Week 4 Update - Ms. Micha’s Saturday Class

Hey y’all!

We had a blast at Farm School today. We kicked off our day with fire making. We gathered juniper bark for tinder & used ferro rods to start our fire. We learned finger knitting with yarn & hemp. The kids did really well at this & loved watching their pieces grow. Some added beads & made beautiful bracelets & necklaces.

We roasted bananas on the fire in foil & even stuffed them with pieces of clementines~ yum! We then broke off into groups for impromptu magic tricks. We took turns bewildering one another & showing off our skills.

It was then time for our compass activity. We learned about the magnetics of our planet & the four directions. We drew detailed compasses. We hiked to greet the cows who were very vocal & there we played a game I came up with for the very first time, Compass Compassion. At the Café field we made a giant compass out of cones & laminated signs, running to each of them as I called out a direction. The first one there shared something they had felt challenged by & had overcome. We learned so much about one another.

The day was becoming delightfully sunny & warm which set the scene for such a relaxing lunch. We talked about the job of a lamplighter, as I showed the kids a lantern. We discussed the evolution of electricity. We reflected on our project last week, then collected our treasures from the Hoop House to take home.

Farmer Austen was uncovering the crops so they could get the full benefits from the coming rainfall, so we decided to help him. The kids did such a fantastic job removing the sandbags & rocks, uncovering, then weighing down the folded covers. They enjoyed some wild & free time until it was time for the end of the day.

All the Best families & we’ll see ya soon!

Take great care,

~Miss Micha
