Week 9 Update - Ms. Micha’s Explorers

Hi Friends!

We had a productive & fun experience this week. It was quite cold & too windy for a fire, so we set up a tarp shelter together to create shelter from the wind. Kids helped hammer stakes into the ground & tie rope to secure it in place.

We played a game called People To People. Students paired up & I declared two body parts, to which they would form a connection with their partner. For example: elbow to knee! They would then connect an elbow to the other’s knee. Bonus if they could do two connections at the same time. I then declared things like, nose to tree, then palms to soil etc. It was a great exercise in communication & connection with the natural world.

Afterward it began to rain, so we cozied up with blankets in our shelter, had our Morning Circle, snack & read a story called Thanks, by Eric Carle. The rain had passed so we decided to go for a hike. We marched through the tall grass & happened to come upon the cows munching their snacks. We recalled & noted familiar plants in the area, then walked past the bees. They were in their hive as it was so chilly. We discussed how bees keep warm on cold days.

Following lunchtime, the kids led in creative storytelling. We enjoyed some free time, practicing hand eye coordination with hammers, tying rope & climbing trees. They were so brave & ready for anything, as this weather day was certainly a challenge for some. We talked about overcoming something hard & how rewarding the simple things are when we push ourselves. What a day!

Thanks so much families. We will see you for our final week of the semester!
