Week 2 Update - Ms. Micha’s Saturday Class

Howdy Folks!

This week we all greeted each other in the Hoop House as the wind was so powerful. We bundled up with farm blankets & in Morning Circle we shared how we were feeling & how long we’ve been coming to the farm. It’s nice to have so many returning students who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with our new students.

We read a book called, “A Little Bit Brave” by Nicola Kinnear ~ a perfect tale for this wild day. I then lit some sage & palo santo and shared the energy clearing effects as well as calming. Mmmm! We also played Guess The Scent with Rose, Lavender and Frankincense essential oils.

Our Farm Chore was next, feeding our chickens. Boy were they excited! They had laid 3 eggs, one beige, one brown egg, & one light green. We observed the difference in color and shape. We then prepared their food for the following day. After Snack we enjoyed some play dough fun ~ trading colors & even creating Universes.

We decided to be 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑏𝑖𝑡 𝑏𝑟𝑎𝑣𝑒 by venturing out to observe & document our findings at the Weather Station. It was a beautiful chilly clear day and we all joked whether to circle breezy or WINDY!

We enjoyed some free exploration and play time before lunch. We also helped transport in a wheelbarrow an untied straw bale (seat) from our outdoor classroom to the back of the compost stalls. We replaced it with an intact hay bale. We took some of the other broken straw bale and spread it along the dirt floor of our class as to keep the dust & dirt from flying into our eyes during windy days. We shredded & stomped it down. This turned into a necessary activity: making straw angels!

After lunch at the farm rows, we observed the watering system. We looked at the tiny slits in the emitters & talked about why a slow drip can be beneficial for growing happy plants.

We then collected sticks for our bird feeder activity! We slathered our perches with sunflower butter, rolled them in birdseed and tied on some twine. We played my bird call necklace and it had some kids surprised that it wasn’t an actual bird in the Hoop House! Before hanging our art in the trees, we had fun playing Bird Fact True or False.

There you have it, another awesome day here on The Farm. Wishes for a fantastic week everyone.

Take Great Care,

~Miss Micha
