Week 8 Update - Mr. Braden’s Builders
Hey Folks,
Hoping everyone had a wonderful Halloween! We certainly did at Farm School. We got quite a bit done this last Friday. Rather than following our usual schedule, we started the day off with a lesson on fire safety, followed by a fire building demonstration. We shared the following on our Fire Safety ABC's:
A - Adult Supervision
B - Barrier (a firepit or other barrier around your fire)
C - Current Climate (sustained winds <15mph, no active burn ban)
D - Distance (from flammable things, grass, tree canopy, buildings, etc)
E - Extinguisher (water or other fire extinguisher present before anything is lit)
F - Foreign Objects (only wood & food in the fire)
With that information in place, we cored some apples, filled them with cinnamon/raisins, wrapped them in foil and got them baking.
We also made a scarecrow for the fall festival. It was a group effort and the kids did really well coming up with what they wanted to do and getting their scarecrow all stuffed up.
At the end of the day we hollowed out mini-pumpkins to make succulent planters out of, and made sure the chickens received their proper care. It was a busy day, and we got quite a bit done. We only have two weeks left this semester, I hope everyone is ready to make the most out of it!
