Week 1 Update - Ms. Micha’s Builders
Hello Parents & Families!
I am humbled to share that we had an amazing time together for our first day. We started with a fun game of Scramble up at the large gathering field. We got to work out those first day jitters & got some silliness in too. We then spit into our groups & hiked to our beautiful classroom.
There we got settled as the kids chose a hay bale to sit on. We then went around with the Talking Stick & had our Morning Circle. This is a time to come together as a group, get ourselves grounded in the space & open up & connect. We introduced ourselves, shared how we were feeling & what we were grateful for. Some kids bravely shared they felt nervous, & many of us exclaimed, “Aho!” to affirm our similar feeling. We did some stretching exercises & ran around our elm tree.
Some kids felt super eager to say hello to the chickens, so that’s just what we did! There we learned about the rooster’s big responsibility & observed the chickens eating their breakfast. We discussed some hazardous or prickly plants in the area & how to communicate to one another if they spot something.
We discussed our Class Agreements implemented for safety & overall flow. We gave a thumbs up in agreement to staying with the group, respecting nature, each other & our belongings & a few other key things. The kids then enjoyed some free time, exploring our wooded surroundings at the classroom, building a shelter with large branches & overall getting acquainted with one another.
We played a game called Hungry Otters, then a tag game of Wolves & Rabbits. After a nice lunch we took a Farm Tour with our scavenger hunt clipboards, pairing into small groups. We explored the Hoop House & the growing seedlings. As we strolled we talked about animal tracks, pollinators, & blossoming plants.
We then wrapped up our day together with a game of Look Up, Look Down. We had so much fun & went around in a Closing Circle sharing about our most favorite part of our day. What a difference in comfort as we all got to know each other. We’re all very excited to come together next week!
Thank you so much for encouraging your children to exercise their curiosity & fondness for farming & nature. I so look forward to the coming weeks here on The Farm.
All the Best!
