Week 1 Update- Ms. Keely’s Busy Bees
Hi Parents!
This week at farm school was all about getting to know the farm and our new friends. We started our day with some free play while everyone was getting settled. The kids enjoyed the play area as well as meeting each other.
We ventured back to our class to discuss some agreements for our class and the rules of the farm. We read “F is for Farm.” It is a cute alphabet book with each letter having something found on the farm. We had a quick snack and bathroom break before heading out to meet some of the chickens and tour the farm. The kids loved the chickens! They had lots of great questions. What do chickens eat? Where is their house? Why do they have a special fence? Are roosters chickens? We continued with our farm tour. We played “I Spy” with colors and shapes around the farm while we checked out the current crops. Then, we had the chance to try some! They tried basil and okra. There were some funny expressions and some spitting! The okra was a hit, but the basil was not quite their favorite. We found some squash and cantaloupe tucked away under lots of twisting and turning vines. They touched lots of the things growing from squash to flowers to okra to corn to basil to peppers. The kids were getting hot and a bit tired, so we ended our tour to take a water break. While resting, we read “The Perfect Day.” The kids are great listeners and enjoyed our books today.
We had a quiet lunch as the kids were so hungry from all of the day’s excitement. After lunch, the kids made 1st day farm school hats with stickers. They loved the stickers and their hats. This was a good activity for them to practice fine motor skills while focusing on their own hat creations. They finished at different times and were free to play for the rest of the afternoon. They have already made new friends and started their own pretend play and games! I love how quickly they made friends!
We had a sweet first day together! Looking forward to the fun we will have next week!
